On this page we show images of the head of the anurognathus pterosaur so that you can see the anatomical details of this area more carefully. There is well preserved skin on numerous areas of this pterosaur fossil but the skin on the head is easpecially impressive. Like other anurognathid pterosaurs in amber there are no pycnofibers or feathers present on these creatures, for those interested in feathers we do have various Cretaceous avian remains on this website and in the archives. Please note there are numerous types of parasites that have been found in pterosaur in amber fossils and the variety is so vast that there are tiny thin worms which often survive after the host animal dies. Once the host is coated in tree resin after a few days the oxygen levels drop and the worms are very resilient towards the amber resin and can be seen exiting clearly upon microscopic examination.
